How Skill Lab works.
Lessons, tutors, credit and teaching, explained in plain words. Short version: pick a tutor, ask a question, and pay only for the lessons you take.
A lesson, step by step.
-
1
Pick a tutor
Browse by topic, level and price. Each tutor page shows the full lesson plan, who wrote it, and a short sample of how the tutor answers.
-
2
Ask your first question
Press Start lesson, or tap one of the lessons in the plan to begin there. You need a free account. The classroom opens and the lesson starts with your first message.
-
3
Learn one step at a time
The tutor follows the plan, one idea at a time, with an example each time. Ask anything in your own words, or tap Explain it simpler, Give me an exercise or Quiz me.
-
4
Keep going when you like it
Your first 3 replies with each tutor are free. After that, the classroom offers to continue the lesson for its price, paid from your credit.
-
5
Come back to it
Your lessons live under My lessons. An open lesson picks up where you left off, and finished ones stay there to read again.
What the tutor is.
The tutor is an AI model that follows a plan written by a human teacher. The teacher decides what to teach and in what order, how the tutor should explain things, and which notes it should rely on. The AI then teaches that plan to you, one message at a time.
It stays on its topic, keeps replies short, gives an example each time and usually ends with a question or a small exercise, so you practise instead of only reading.
It can be wrong. AI models sometimes state wrong things with confidence. Check anything important, and ask the tutor how it knows when an answer surprises you.

Teachers set the price.
Each teacher chooses what a lesson with their tutor costs: free, or between $1 and $50. The price is on every tutor card and tutor page before you start.
Across the catalog right now, paid lessons cost from $3 to $15.
Of every paid lesson, the teacher earns 80% and the platform keeps 20%.
When a lesson ends.
- You end it yourself in the classroom, or
- the tutor has given its 40 replies for that lesson, or
- no message has been sent for 24 hours.
A finished lesson stays under My lessons, where you can read it again. To keep learning with the same tutor, start a new lesson.
After a paid lesson with at least 3 tutor replies you can rate it and write a short review. One review per lesson.
Privacy, in plain words.
- Your lesson messages are stored on this site so the conversation can continue and you can read it later.
- To write each reply, the tutor reads the recent messages of that lesson. When the site is connected to an AI model, those messages are sent to the model provider for that purpose.
- Teachers do not see your messages. They see that a lesson took place, with your name.
- Reviews show your first name and the first letter of your last name.
Teaching and earning.
Know an AI topic well? Build a tutor once and it teaches whenever a student shows up.
- 1
Apply
Tell us what you know in a short application. The site admin reviews it.
- 2
Build your tutor
In the studio you write the lesson plan, the teaching style, the notes the tutor relies on, its first message and its price. You can test it yourself for free.
- 3
Earn per lesson
You keep 80% of every paid lesson. Free tutors earn nothing.
- 4
Request a payout
Once your earnings reach $20, request a payout from the studio. The site admin sends it by hand to the details you give.
How tutors are checked before they go live.
A tutor cannot be sent for review until it has a name, a one line summary, a topic, a lesson plan of at least three lessons, a teaching style and a first message.
The site admin then reads it and publishes it, or sends it back. The admin can also suspend a live tutor at any time.
Questions.
Is the tutor a real person?
No. The tutor is an AI model. A real teacher wrote its lesson plan, its teaching style and the notes it relies on, but every reply is written by the AI.
Can the tutor be wrong?
Yes. AI models can state wrong things with confidence. Treat answers as a starting point, check important facts, and ask the tutor to explain its reasoning when something sounds off.
Do I need a subscription?
No. There is no subscription. You add credit and spend it only on the lessons you choose to take.
How many free replies do I get?
3 with every tutor, in your first lesson with that tutor. Tutors marked Free cost nothing at all.
What does one lesson include?
One paid lesson is one conversation with up to 40 tutor replies. You can follow the plan or ask about anything on the topic.
What if I do not have enough credit?
The site shows the price and your balance, with a button to add credit. Nothing is charged until you start the lesson.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are not automatic. The site admin can refund a paid lesson, which puts its full price back on your credit.
Who can see my messages?
You can. Teachers cannot read your lessons: they see that a lesson took place and your name. Messages are stored on this site so your lesson can continue.
Can I pick up where I left off?
Yes, while the lesson is open. A lesson closes after 24 hours without a message, and you can start a new one with the same tutor any time.
What can I learn here?
Right now there are 657 tutors across 31 topics, from AI basics and prompting to machine learning, building with AI and AI at work.
Are the ratings real?
Not yet. This is a preview build: ratings, reviews and lesson counts on the site are sample data, and each one is marked Sample.
How do teachers get paid?
Teachers keep 80% of every paid lesson. Once their earnings reach $20 they can request a payout, which the site admin sends by hand.
Can anyone publish a tutor?
No. Teachers apply first, and every tutor is checked by the site admin before it goes live.
