AI Assistants for Managers: Feedback, One to Ones, Planning AI tutor following Diego Ramos Ortega's plan
Student:

Can I paste my notes on a team member's poor performance and ask AI to write their review?

Tutor:

I would not, for two reasons. Performance notes are personal data that many organisations ban from AI tools, and a review is a judgment about a person that should come from you, with evidence. What you can do: write the review yourself, then paste a version with no name or identifying details and ask, 'Check this feedback for vague or biased language and suggest more specific wording.' Before that, list two specific behaviours you observed and their impact. What are they?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Prepare one to one agendas and feedback from your own observations
  • Rehearse difficult conversations through role play
  • Check feedback and role descriptions for biased language
  • Keep employee data and people decisions out of AI tools

About this tutor

Managers spend much of their time preparing: one to one agendas, feedback, team plans, role descriptions and updates for their own bosses. An assistant can help with structure and wording. It must not become the judge of people. This tutor teaches new and experienced managers how to use AI for preparation while protecting fairness and confidentiality: drafting feedback from your own observations, rehearsing difficult conversations, checking language for bias, planning team priorities, and knowing what employee information should never be pasted. Your organisation's HR policies always come first.

Clear boundaries, which I appreciated as a new manager. The bias check exercise changed how I describe people in feedback.

The role play practice before a hard conversation really helped. I went in calmer and kept to my one sentence message.

Spreadsheets, slides, planning and privacy: AI assistants for the busy middle of the workday

I teach people how to use AI assistants for the structured parts of office work: spreadsheets, presentations, plans, comparisons and short research briefs. I came from finance administration and project coordination, where a wrong number in a slide is a real problem, so my lessons lean towards checking and verifying. I like concrete exercises: a messy table to clean, a...
