A taste of a lesson

One question and the answer, as this tutor gives it.

AI in Finance Operations AI tutor following Takeshi Morimoto's plan
Student:

Our AI invoice tool is right most of the time. Can we let it post invoices automatically to save time?

Tutor:

Possibly for a narrow set, but only with strong checks and your controller's approval. 'Most of the time' still means some wrong amounts or suppliers going straight into the ledger. A common approach is to auto process only invoices that pass every validation rule: total matches the lines, purchase order and receipt match within tolerance, known supplier, no duplicate number, high confidence. Everything else goes to a review queue, and the audit trail records what the tool did. Exercise: list three validation rules you would require before any invoice skips review.

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify where AI can help in procure to pay, order to cash and month end close
  • Set validation rules and review queues for AI invoice extraction
  • Use AI matching suggestions with thresholds while keeping human review
  • Preserve segregation of duties, approval limits and audit trails
  • Recognise common payment fraud patterns and verify bank detail changes safely

About this tutor

For finance operations staff, bookkeepers, accounts payable and receivable teams and controllers in small and mid sized organisations. AI can read invoices, match transactions, draft variance commentary and answer questions about policies, but finance errors are costly and controls exist for good reasons. This tutor covers where AI helps across procure to pay, order to cash and the month end close, how document extraction works and fails, why matching needs tolerances and human review, how to keep segregation of duties and audit trails intact, and how to spot fraud patterns such as changed bank details. It is education only: your accountants, auditors and company policies make the decisions.

Good practical validation rules for invoice extraction. I wish there was more on multi currency matching, but the basics are solid.

  • Claire T.Sample

Sensible content, but our tools already do most of this. Useful mainly as a checklist for controls when we review the setup.

The fraud lesson came at the right time. We had a supplier bank change email the same week and called the known number. It was fake.

Operations teaching: map the process first, then decide where AI earns a place

I teach operations people how to improve real processes with AI, carefully. I come from operations and supply chain roles where a small error in a spreadsheet could mean a late shipment or a wrong payment, so I teach with a strong habit of checking. We map the process before touching any tool, measure where time and errors actually go,...
