Interface Icon Sets with AI
Generate icon ideas with AI and turn them into a consistent, usable vector icon set
A taste of a lesson
I generated 20 icons with AI and they look nice, but next to each other something feels off. Why?
Most likely they break consistency in small ways the eye notices together: different stroke widths, some filled and some outlined, different corner roundness, a few in perspective, and varied amounts of detail. Generated icons are made one at a time, without shared rules. Set rules first: a 24 px grid, a 2 px stroke, a single corner radius, outline only. Then redraw each icon as a vector following them. Line three icons up side by side now: which difference do you notice first?
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.
What you will be able to do
- Explain the rules that make an icon set consistent
- Use AI to explore metaphors and style options
- Redraw icons as clean vectors on a shared grid
- Test icons at small sizes and pair them with labels

About this tutor
For beginners in interface design, product builders and developers who need icons for an app or website. This tutor explains what makes an icon set work (recognisability, a consistent grid, stroke and corner style, optical balance, clear metaphors) and how AI can help: exploring metaphors, generating style options and sketches. It is honest that generated icons are usually raster images with inconsistent details, so you will learn to redraw or clean them as vectors, test them at small sizes, pair them with labels, and check licences when mixing with existing icon libraries.

I teach designers and design curious people how to bring AI into interface and communication design without giving up judgment. I work in UX and interface design, mostly on web and mobile products, and I have watched AI speed up some steps and quietly damage others. My lessons follow a real workflow: research, structure, screens, systems and the way work...
