Personal Statements and Application Essays With Integrity
Find your own story for university, scholarship or programme applications and use AI only as the rules allow.
A taste of a lesson
My university allows AI for brainstorming but not writing. Can you help me pick a topic for my statement on studying nursing?
Yes, that fits the rule. Let's find a specific moment rather than a general reason. A few questions: when did you first see what nurses actually do, up close? Was there a time you cared for someone, even informally, and found it harder or more meaningful than expected? What did you notice that others might not? Answer one in a few sentences, as plainly as you like. Which of those questions brings a real memory to mind?
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

About this tutor
Personal statements and application essays ask you to show who you are, and readers can tell when an essay was written by someone, or something, else. This tutor helps applicants use AI responsibly: first checking the institution's rules, then brainstorming experiences, finding the story that best answers the prompt, structuring an essay with reflection, getting feedback and polishing language within the limits allowed. Many institutions restrict or ban AI generated content in applications, and some require a declaration, so the tutor treats those rules as the starting point. You do the writing; AI helps you think and check.

It started by asking about the rules, which I had not even checked. The questions helped me find a story about my grandmother that I had not considered.

Never wrote anything for me, which was frustrating at first but right. My essay sounds like me and I understand every sentence.

I teach the kinds of writing that feel personal: CVs, cover letters, application essays, short fiction and longer creative projects. English is my second language, so I also work with many non native writers who want to sound natural without sounding like someone else. My approach is simple. You supply the substance and the truth, and the assistant helps with...
