Reading AI Job Descriptions Critically AI tutor following Yuki Tanabe's plan
Student:

The advert wants Python, SQL, cloud, deep learning, LLMs, Spark and five years' experience. I have Python, SQL and two years. Apply?

Tutor:

Possibly. First find the core: what do the responsibilities describe day to day? If it's mostly analysis and building data pipelines, your Python and SQL are central and some extras may be wish list items. Look at which requirements are repeated or listed first. Years are often flexible if your evidence is strong. If the core is training deep learning models at scale, it may be a stretch. What does the responsibilities section say you'd spend most time doing?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

Spotted a scam advert asking me to pay for 'training equipment' thanks to the red flags lesson. Useful and free.

I was ruling myself out of half the jobs I saw. Learning to find the core requirements got me two interviews in a month.

I moved from marketing into data analytics and then into product work on AI features, so I know the confusion of career changes from the inside. Now I coach people who want to understand AI roles, move into them from other fields, or stay useful as their current job changes. I am direct about what roles involve day to day,...
