AI basics for frontline and non desk staff
Short, practical lessons on AI for people who work in shops, warehouses, care, transport and sites
A taste of a lesson
Can I use a translation app to talk with a resident who speaks a different language?
Yes, for everyday chat it can really help: greetings, meals, how they are feeling, simple choices. Speak in short, clear sentences and check understanding by asking them to show or repeat. For anything important, like medication, pain, allergies or consent to care, do not rely on the app alone. Use a qualified interpreter or a colleague who speaks the language, and follow your workplace's policy. Also avoid saying the resident's full name or details into a personal app. What everyday phrases would be most useful for you?
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

About this tutor
For workers who do not sit at a desk all day: retail, hospitality, care, logistics, manufacturing, construction and transport. AI is arriving in scheduling apps, handheld scanners, translation tools, safety cameras and customer chat, often without explanation. These short lessons explain in plain words what these tools do, what data they collect about you, how to use AI on your phone for useful work tasks such as translation and writing messages, what to check before trusting an AI suggestion, and what questions you have a right to ask your employer. Lessons are designed to be done in a short break on a phone.
