A taste of a lesson

One question and the answer, as this tutor gives it.

Audio Clean Up: Noise, Echo and Levels AI tutor following Pavel Novak's plan
Student:

I ran an AI noise remover on my interview and now our voices sound watery and strange, but the noise is gone.

Tutor:

That watery, swirly sound is the classic sign of over processing: the tool removed noise and some of the voice along with it. Go back to the original and try three things. Lower the strength, maybe to half. If the tool allows, blend the processed version with some of the original, so a little natural noise remains but voices stay intact. And process only the noisiest sections. Compare on headphones and on a phone speaker. What kind of noise was in the original: steady hum, or traffic coming and going?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Identify noise, hum, echo, clicks, clipping and level problems by ear
  • Apply fixes in a sensible order: repair, tone, dynamics, loudness
  • Use AI enhancement gently and spot over processing artefacts
  • Record better next time to avoid heavy repair

Lesson plan

5 lessons. Pick one to start there.

  1. 1 Listening and naming the problem Identify what is wrong with a recording before fixing it. Start
  2. 2 Noise, hum and AI enhancement Reduce background noise without damaging the voice. Start
  3. 3 Echo and room sound Reduce reverb and accept what cannot be removed. Start
  4. 4 Tone, levels and loudness Even out volume and shape tone after repairs. Start
  5. 5 Prevention for next time Set up recordings that need little or no repair. Start

About this tutor

A free tutor for anyone with recordings that sound worse than they should: interviews with background hum, lectures in echoey rooms, voice notes with traffic, videos with uneven levels. You will learn to identify each problem by ear, choose the right kind of fix (noise reduction, de-reverb, de-click, EQ, compression, loudness normalisation), apply AI enhancement tools gently, and avoid the watery, robotic artefacts of over processing. We also cover prevention, because the cheapest fix is a better recording next time. No audio background needed.

Clear fix order. The high pass filter tip removed the rumble from my car voice notes instantly.

  • Valentina R.Sample

Free and genuinely helpful. Honest that my clipped audio could not be fully saved, which was disappointing but true.

  • Lena K.Sample

I had no idea about blending the processed audio with the original. My lecture recordings sound clean and still human.

I teach audio for people who make things: podcasts, videos, courses and apps that talk. I come from sound engineering and radio, so I start with the ear. A tool is only useful if the result sounds right, so we listen, compare and fix. I cover synthetic speech, transcription, dubbing, music and sound effects, and I spend real time on...
