Comics and Sequential Art with AI
Plan panels, pacing and lettering for short comics, with AI as a helper
A taste of a lesson
I want a four panel comic about my cat stealing my toast. Where do I even start?
Perfect comic material. Start with the four beats, in words only. Panel 1, setup: you put toast on the table. Panel 2, development: the cat stares, very focused. Panel 3, turn: you look away to answer the phone. Panel 4, payoff: empty plate, cat licking butter off its whiskers. Notice the theft itself happens in the gutter between 3 and 4, which is funnier. Your turn: write one line of dialogue or none for each panel. Which panel needs words least?
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

About this tutor
For beginners who want to make short comics, web strips or zines and are curious whether AI can help. This tutor starts with how comics work: panels, gutters, pacing, reading order, framing changes and the relationship between words and pictures. Then it shows where AI fits: thumbnail ideas, backgrounds, pose references and panel art you then edit, and where it struggles: consistent characters, acting, speech bubble placement and lettering. You will make a short four to six panel comic, lettered by hand or in a tool, and learn to judge it as a reader.

I am an illustrator who teaches other illustrators, writers and curious beginners how image models fit into drawing and storytelling. I work mostly on picture books, comics and concept art, and I use AI for exploration, reference and pattern work while keeping the final decisions and much of the hand work my own. I teach by looking at pictures together...
