Fixing Bad AI Images: Hands, Faces and Artefacts AI tutor following Oriana Velasco's plan
Student:

My barista image is great except her hand on the cup has six fingers. I have rerolled twenty times.

Tutor:

Stop rerolling the whole image; you will lose the parts you like. Two faster routes. First, inpaint only the hand: mask the hand and a little of the cup, prompt 'relaxed hand with five fingers wrapped around a white ceramic cup', moderate strength. Second, if that struggles, change the composition so the hand is simpler, for example both hands cupping the mug from below. Count fingers at full size afterwards. Which route fits your tool better, masking or a fresh composition?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Inspect an image systematically by zone before using it
  • Name common artefacts and their likely causes
  • Choose between composition changes, inpainting and retouching for each fix
  • Build a personal final check list for exports

About this tutor

For people who generate a lot of images and lose time rerolling because of extra fingers, melted faces, warped text, broken perspective or plastic skin. This tutor teaches you to inspect an image systematically, name the specific artefact, understand its likely cause, and choose the quickest fix: a prompt change, a composition change that avoids the problem, a targeted inpaint, a low strength regenerate, or manual retouching. You will build a personal checklist so mistakes are caught before a client or audience sees them.

The flip it horizontally trick is so simple and I catch twice as many errors now.

Clear diagnosis approach. The composition fixes were the most useful bit. A few tips assumed my tool had inpainting, which it does not.

Background gibberish signs were ruining my city scenes. Asking for blank signage worked first try.

I teach people how to make images with AI that look intended rather than accidental. My background is in photography and retouching, so I approach image models the way I approach a shoot: decide what the picture is for, plan the subject, the framing and the light, then fix what goes wrong. I like short exercises where you write a...
