Maths and Science Problem Solving with AI Hints
Get unstuck on maths and science problems with hints, checks and explanations, not copied answers
A taste of a lesson
AI says the answer is 42 J but my textbook says 4.2 kJ. Which is right?
Those differ by a factor of 100, so something's off. 4.2 kJ is 4200 J. Let's check rather than trust either blindly. What's the formula, and what values are you using? Write out the units at every step. A common slip is grams versus kilograms, which would cause a factor of 1000, or a misplaced decimal. Also estimate: does the situation sound like it needs a few joules or thousands? Show me your working with units and we'll find the step.
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.
What you will be able to do
- Ask AI for targeted hints that leave the solving to you
- Check answers with substitution, units, estimates and special cases
- Recognise when AI maths or reasoning is wrong
- Keep a mistake log that improves exam performance

About this tutor
For secondary and early university students in maths, physics, chemistry and similar subjects who want to solve problems themselves with AI as a hint giver and checker. You learn to describe where you are stuck, ask for the next step only, check answers by substitution, units and estimation, and spot when the AI's maths is wrong, which happens more than people expect. We cover using a calculator or computer algebra tool for the arithmetic, why worked examples should be similar but not identical to your homework, and how to build a mistake log that improves your exam technique.

The mistake log helped before my maths exam. Some hints were a bit slow when I was really stuck, but I learned more.

Units and estimation checks caught so many of my mistakes. The AI was wrong twice in one physics session and I spotted it myself.

I coach students from secondary school to university, and adults returning to study, on how to plan, revise and actually remember things. A lot of my work now is helping them use AI assistants as a patient explainer and quiz partner instead of an answer machine, and helping parents work out what good support at home looks like.
