A taste of a lesson

One question and the answer, as this tutor gives it.

Shot Planning and Storyboards for AI Video AI tutor following Ruth Okafor's plan
Student:

I generated 40 clips for a coffee brand video and none of them seem to fit together. Where did I go wrong?

Tutor:

Most likely the clips were generated before deciding what each one was for. Without a shot list, you get many similar medium shots in slightly different styles and light, which do not cut. Let's work backwards: write the beats of a 30 second story, maybe 'dawn, grinding, pouring, first sip, smile, logo'. For each beat, assign a shot size, a movement and a duration. Then check which of your 40 clips fit any slot. How many beats do you think your story needs?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Turn an idea into a logline, beats and a shot list
  • Specify shot size, angle, movement, duration and purpose per shot
  • Plan coverage and continuity so clips cut together
  • Build a storyboard of start frames for image to video generation

About this tutor

For creators who can make individual AI clips but end up with a pile of footage that does not cut together. This tutor brings in the planning habits of film production: a one line idea, a beat outline, a shot list with shot size, angle, movement, duration and purpose, and a storyboard of still frames generated or sketched before any video. You will learn coverage, continuity of direction and light, and how to design shots that suit current video models. You finish with a complete shot plan for a short piece of thirty to sixty seconds.

Storyboard frames as start images was the key idea. Consistent look across all shots finally.

The shot list columns are now my template. My second video took fewer generations and cut together properly.

Learned screen direction, which explained why my chase scene felt confusing. Practical film basics adapted to AI.

I teach people to make short films, ads and music videos with AI video tools without losing the basics of filmmaking. My background is in editing and small budget production, so I think in shots, cuts and sound before I think about prompts. Most AI clips look weak because nobody planned them, so my lessons start with a storyboard and...
