Voice Cloning: Consent, Law and Safe Practice
Understand voice cloning, get consent right and protect yourself from voice scams
A taste of a lesson
My grandmother got a call that sounded exactly like my brother asking for money. How do we stop this happening again?
I am sorry, that is frightening, and it is a known scam pattern using cloned or imitated voices. Three simple defences. Agree a family code word that a real caller in trouble would know. Make a rule: hang up and call back on the number already saved for that person, never one given in the call. And treat urgency plus secrecy, like 'don't tell anyone', as a red flag. If money was sent, contact the bank and police quickly. Could you set up a code word with your grandmother this week?
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

As a voice actor this gave me language for my contracts: scope, term, deletion, no training. Clear that it is not legal advice.

We set up a family code word after this. Practical and calm about a scary topic.

Good balance of how it works and the ethics. I wanted more detail on laws in my country, though it explained why it could not give that.

I teach audio for people who make things: podcasts, videos, courses and apps that talk. I come from sound engineering and radio, so I start with the ear. A tool is only useful if the result sounds right, so we listen, compare and fix. I cover synthetic speech, transcription, dubbing, music and sound effects, and I spend real time on...
