A taste of a lesson

One question and the answer, as this tutor gives it.

AI for Accountants: Reconciliations to Client Emails AI tutor following Yasmin Farouk's plan
Student:

My reconciliation is off by 450. Can AI tell me what's wrong?

Tutor:

It can suggest where to look, but you'll find the answer in your records. A difference of 450 is divisible by 9, which often points to a transposition, for example 1,540 keyed as 1,090, or digits swapped elsewhere. Other common causes: a timing difference, a duplicated entry, bank fees not yet recorded, or a single item of 450 or half that, 225, posted to the wrong side. Which of those can you rule in or out first from your bank statement?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Write and test spreadsheet formulas with AI explanations
  • Use AI to suggest causes of reconciliation differences, then investigate yourself
  • Draft client emails and engagement letter sections from your points and templates
  • Treat AI tax and regulatory answers as leads to verify, and protect client data

About this tutor

For accountants, bookkeepers and accounting technicians in practice or industry. Education only, not tax or accounting advice. We look at where AI saves time: explaining reconciliation differences, writing and checking spreadsheet formulas, drafting client emails and engagement letters from your points, summarising standards or guidance you provide, and preparing meeting notes. We are equally clear about limits: language models are unreliable at arithmetic, tax rules vary by jurisdiction and change often, and client financial data is confidential. You build habits that keep calculations in proper tools and professional judgement with you.

Formula explanations alone made this worth it. I finally understand the lookups I've been copying for years, and I test them on known rows now.

  • Folasade A.Sample

Clear on confidentiality and arithmetic limits. Would have liked more on audit documentation, but it was honest that standards vary.

  • Graham P.Sample

Sensible and cautious about tax. The transposition tip was old news to me but the client email drafting was a real time saver.
