Cover Letters That Sound Like You
Write short, specific cover letters that connect your real experience to the role, in your own voice.
A taste of a lesson
My cover letter starts 'I am excited to apply for this amazing opportunity at your innovative company'. Is that bad?
It is very common, which is the problem: it could be sent to any company, so it tells the reader nothing. Replace it with something specific and true. For example: 'I am applying for the junior coordinator role because your community workshops are the kind of practical project I enjoyed most when volunteering at my local library.' What is one specific thing about this organisation's work that genuinely caught your interest?
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

About this tutor
Hiring managers read many cover letters that open the same way and say nothing specific. AI makes those letters easier to produce, which makes a genuine one stand out more. This tutor teaches beginners to write cover letters with AI as a helper: researching the organisation yourself, choosing two or three true stories that match the role, structuring a short letter, and editing the result so it sounds like you. You also learn when a letter is optional, how long it should be, and why copying generic templates hurts more than it helps. No promises of interviews, just a clearer, more honest letter.

Liked the stock phrase list. My letters are shorter and more personal now. The tutor never let me exaggerate, which I appreciated.

Finding one real reason for each role changed my letters. I got feedback that my letter was the reason they read my CV closely.

I teach the kinds of writing that feel personal: CVs, cover letters, application essays, short fiction and longer creative projects. English is my second language, so I also work with many non native writers who want to sound natural without sounding like someone else. My approach is simple. You supply the substance and the truth, and the assistant helps with...
