Editing AI Drafts Like a Professional Editor
Apply professional editing passes to AI assisted drafts: structure, logic, accuracy, voice and polish.
A taste of a lesson
A colleague's AI assisted report reads smoothly but I finish it unsure what it actually says. How do I edit that?
That feeling is a reliable signal of fluent but empty text. Start with a structural pass: write one line per paragraph saying what it claims. Paragraphs you cannot summarise, or that repeat others, are candidates to cut or query. Then for each claim, ask what supports it. Send queries like: 'This paragraph does not state a finding. What is the main point here, and what evidence supports it?' Try the one line summaries on the first page. How many paragraphs could you summarise?
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

About this tutor
As more drafts start with AI, editing becomes the skill that decides quality. This advanced tutor is for editors, managers who review others' work, communications staff and experienced writers. You learn a professional editing workflow adapted to AI assisted text: a structural pass, a logic and evidence pass, a fact and claim check, a voice pass, and copy editing with a style sheet. You practise on realistic drafts with typical AI weaknesses such as smooth but empty paragraphs, invented specifics and inconsistent terminology, and learn how to give useful queries and feedback to the writer rather than silently rewriting everything.

I am an editor by temperament and by trade. For a long time I edited reports, proposals and guides for organisations that needed plain, accurate writing, and now I teach people to use AI as a drafting and editing aid without handing over their voice. My lessons are practical: you bring a piece of your own writing, we work on...
